Racism is not just an individual problem, but is often deeply rooted in the structures of our society – including in institutions such as universities. It doesn’t always manifest itself openly, but it works through systematic discrimination, exclusion and a lack of representation. Racism does not just begin with insults – it begins where structures exclude people.

This year, as part of the “Day of Action against Racism” on 29.04.2025, we want to explicitly address forms of institutional racism.

We will start with action stands in the library foyer in cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Office and the Vice Dean for Sustainability, Equality and Diversity of the Faculty of Cultural Studies and the Center for Gender Studies at Paderborn University. Here you can expect various offers, hands-on formats and information material on the topic of racism.

When: 11 am – 2 pm

Where? Library foyer

Afterwards, there will be a workshop on the topic of “Recognizing and deconstructing racism”. We want to discuss together how intercultural, culturally sensitive coexistence can succeed.

When: 2-5 p.m.

Finally, there will be a panel discussion on the topic of “institutional racism”. We will talk to Sabine Adelio (ZfS), Ariana Noory (ASV), Dr. Denise Büttner (DaF/DaZ) and Evans Gumbe (TH Lübeck) about how racism manifests itself in the university as an institution and what effects this has on students.

We look forward to seeing you!
