Die Corona-Pandemie stellt eine besondere finanzielle Herausforderung für Studierende dar: Nebenjobs fallen weg, die finanzielle Unterstützung durch Eltern nimmt aufgrund Kurzarbeit oder Jobausfall eventuell ab, Studierende mit Kind(ern) sind plötzlich gezwungen die Kinderbetreuung zu übernehmen. Insbesondere ausländische Studierende sind gefährdet, weil für sie viel weniger finanzielle Hilfsangebote zur Verfügung stehen als für deutsche bzw. EU-Bürger.
Diese Probleme können über den erfolgreichen Abschluss eines Studiums entscheiden. Das sollten sie aber nicht. Ebenso kann die Verschuldung durch Darlehen – egal, ob zinslos oder nicht – nicht als ultimative Lösung in dieser Krise gelten. Daher hat die Universitätsgesellschaft – der Förderverein der Universität Paderborn – auf Initiative des AStA und des Präsidiums der Universität Paderborn einen Hilfsfonds für UPB-Studierende ins Leben gerufen. Hierdurch gewinnen Studierende in Notlage wichtige Zeit, um sich um weitere Finanzierungsquellen zu kümmern.
Der Spendenaufruf hierfür ist am 30. April gestartet, die ersten Spenden sind auch schon eingegangen. In den nächsten Tagen und Wochen werden wir vermehrt auf dieses Hilfsangebot aufmerksam machen, damit Studierenden in Not möglichst schnell geholfen wird.
Wer kann sich bewerben?
Bewerben können sich im aktuellen Semester an der UPB eingeschriebene Studierende aller Fakultäten und aller Semester, die sich aufgrund der aktuellen Corona-Pandemie in einer finanziell schwierigen Situation befinden. Voraussetzung für die Vergabe des Stipendiums sind das regelmäßige Studium bzw. Leistungen, die einen erfolgreichen Studienabschluss erwarten lassen. Ein Rechtsanspruch auf eine Beihilfe besteht nicht und ist unter anderem abhängig von der Verfügbarkeit der Mittel.
Wie viel Geld wird vergeben?
Die Beihilfe beträgt bis zu 450 Euro pro Antrag. In Ausnahmefällen ist eine zweimalige Antragstellung möglich.

Auf der Website der Universitätsgesellschaft finden sich alle wichtigen Informationen. Bitte beachtet, dass die Antragstellung ab 7. Mai dort möglich sein wird, wenn die ersten Spendengelder vergabebereit sind. Das Vergabegremium wird regelmäßig tagen, um eine schnelle Vergabe der Gelder möglich zu machen.
Muss das Geld irgendwann zurückgezahlt werden?
Nein. Dies ist kein Darlehen. Verschuldung löst die aktuellen Probleme nicht, sondern vertagt sie nur. Daher müsst ihr Zuwendungen aus dem Corona-Hilfsfonds nicht zurückzahlen.

Corona relief fund – English version
The corona pandemic puts financial burdens particularly on students: student jobs have been terminated, financial support by parents is periled by a crisis-related shortage in working hours or a parent’s job loss, and students with child(ren) are suddenly facing the double burden of taking care of their children 24/7 while at the same time studying from the home office. Also, international students are facing particular financial problems since they cannot apply for all the financial aid programs that German or EU-citizens have access to.
These problems can make the difference between graduating and quitting. But they shouldn’t. That is why the Universitätsgesellschaft created a corona relief fund after an impulse by AStA and the president’s office. This will help students in financial peril gain the necessary time to secure further funding.
The appeal for donations was started on 30 April, the first donations have already reached the donation account. Over the next few days and weeks, we will repeatedly call attention to this relief fund, so that students in need can apply for quick financial help.
Who can apply?
Students of all faculties and semesters who are currently enrolled at UPB and who are suffering financially due to the impact of the corona crisis can apply. It is required that your course of studies thus far is likely to lead to a successful completion of your current study program. There is no legal obligation to guarantee funds and funds can only be granted if the pool of donations allows it.
How much money can I apply for?
You can receive up to 450 EUR per application. In exceptional cases a second application is possible.
You wish to apply?
You will be able to do this on the Universitätsgesellschaft-Website. Please note that applications will be possible starting 7 May once the first donations are processed. Funds will be granted on a regular basis so that financial aid can reach students in need as quickly as possible.
Do I need to pay back these funds at some point?
No. This is not a student loan. Piling up debts won’t solve these current problems, it will only delay them. That is why you won’t have to return funds from the corona relief fund.
